11th EDCTP Forum “Partnering for Global Health Research Innovation and Impact in Africa”

Fondazione Achille Sclavo is presenting in Paris at the 11th EDCTP Forum “Partnering for Global Health Research Innovation and Impact in Africa”.
The topic: “Addressing causes and underfunding of neglected disease of Low-Income Countries (LICs) synergizing national and EU funding” describes our experience, results and lessons learned in this 10+ year experience.

For over 10 years Fondazione Sclavo in partnership with the Sclavo Vaccines Association, has been working on accelerating availability of a vaccine against Nontyphoidal salmonellae, a major cause of invasive (iNTS) disease in sub-Saharan Africa, a deadly neglected disease affecting mostly children, especially the most vulnerable ones, HIV and malaria patients.
Thanks to the experience gained with a first grant from Regione Toscana, two more EU and EDCTP grants were obtained to increase disease knowledge, one of the major causes of neglection, and finance vaccine clinical trials. Also thanks to this joint effort and the support of many partners, this disease is now better known and closer to be properly prevented.
We are proudly collaborating with WHO in the process that will make an effective vaccine against invasive non-typhoidal salmonella recommended available to all those in need.
